Andrew Hawi is a Kenyan visual artist based in Nairobi. Working across spray paint, acrylics and charcoal, his practice moves between figurative art and expressionism. His images draw from personal encounters, digital culture, film and everyday life, with emotion as the starting point for each work.

My work begins with feeling.
I move between figures, imagined characters and abstract marks, using spray paint, acrylics and charcoal to build images that are immediate but open to interpretation. I am drawn to people and characters from daily life, film and digital culture because they allow me to examine identity, pressure, ambition, vulnerability and self-perception.
I work intuitively. Colour, scale and gesture shift as the piece develops, and I allow accidents to remain when they carry the right energy. I want the viewer to encounter the emotional charge of the work before looking for a fixed explanation.
