Colour carries meaning

Red is the colour most people picture, but shukas come in blues, greens, yellows and pinks. Many families have a favourite, and the patterns change from market to market.

Ask at the stall which colour the seller would choose for you.
From the stall

The Maasai shuka

The shuka is part of everyday Maasai dress: a herder's wrap, a blanket, a shawl. Ours are chosen and sold by the families who wear them.

Cut and sewn by hand

Ankara and kitenge arrive as bright bolts of cloth. Tailors cut them into dresses, shirts and two-pieces, and the finished pieces come to our stalls at The Hub Karen.
